Jacky Montgomery is the Club Professional at Dunbar Golf Club. Jacky has been at Dunbar since October 1999, he has 25 years experience as a Golf Professional and is currently the Captain of the Scottish PGA. He is one of only a small number of Professionals in Great Britain & Ireland who have been awarded the recognition of Advanced Fellow of the PGA.
Jacky and his team of 3 PGA Assistants will provide you with a first class PGA Service whatever your requirements. A warm friendly welcome awaits all members and visitors to Dunbar’s Pro Shop.

Meet The Pro Shop Team
Head Professional
Jacky Montgomery is the Head Club Professional at Dunbar Golf Club. As a player Jacky has enjoyed success in numerous professional events and is a regular on the Tartan Tour. He is a former Scottish Schoolboys Champion and represented both Scotland and Great Britain & Ireland in junior events around the world before turning professional in 1983 aged 18. He was Assistant Professional at Ladybank Golf Club in Fife, the course where he played his junior amateur golf. He became a fully Qualified PGA Professional in December 1986 and subsequently became the youngest Club Professional in the UK in March 1987 when he took on his first Head Professionals appointment at Dunfermline Golf Club at the age of 21.
Jacky joined Dunbar on the 1st October 1999 from Burntisland Golf Club in Fife. He now has 25 years experience in Professional Golf - despite his ‘tender years’. In 2003 he was elected to the position of Chairman of the Golf Professionals Buying Group TGI. He served on the board of TGI for 7 years. He is currently Captain of the Scottish Professional Golfers Association.
Jacky has built a strong reputation as a teacher and golf equipment specialist. A Scottish Golf Union County Coach for 10 years, he is highly regarded for his detailed knowledge of the golf swing and ability to clearly communicate good technique to all golfers, whether they be low handicappers or beginners.
Jacky’s former pupils include amateur internationalists, European tour players and one Gordon Brown former Prime Minister! Jacky continues to coach and work closely with one of his former assistants Neil Fenwick, who is now playing full-time on the PGA European satellite Tours.
Qualified Assistant Professional- Head Assistant
Kris McGowan Head Assistant, joined the team in December 2010. Kris has had an outstanding level of achievement during his PGA Training winning trainee of the year awards during his 1st,2nd and 3rd years. Culminating in him being awarded the Douglas Gillespie Award for overall Scottish PGA Trainee of the year after his final exams in 2009. Kris was a member at Thornton Golf Club in Fife before turning Professional and is still the course record holder there having shot a 9 under par 61 in 2005. Kris recently returned from a year working abroad at The London Hunt Golf Club in Ontario, Canada after completing his PGA training at Burntisland Golf Club in Fife. Kris is an excellent Coach and will assist in delivering the coaching programmes and in the busy day to day operation of the Pro-Shop.
Assistant Professionals
Terry Mathieson and TBC are both currently Trainee Professionals on the PGA Diploma Course. Their training and PGA skill development is a combination of on the job experience, regular assignments on various topics such as Sports science, Coaching, Club Repairs, business management, rules of golf etc and attendance at weekly residential courses for training and exams at the PGA’s HQ at The Belfry. Their training will last approximately 4 years assuming they pass all their exams along the way.
They assist with all the Pro Shop services and also enjoy playing a number of Assistants Golf Tournaments on the Tartan Tour.
